Student Scholars Success Stories
Below are the stories of three of the many students whom we have placed at independent schools.

Hailey Guzman
“I began preparing for the independent school application process in February of my 7th grade. Given that I was the first one in my family to consider a high school boarding opportunity, I was uncertain about following through with the application process. Upon completing several rigorous workshops that included: Interviewing Skills, Essay Writing, Navigating the Financial Aid Process, Researching Schools, SSAT Prep, and mock interviews, my apprehension evolved into the confidence that I needed to start and complete the high school application process. I am pleased to say that I was accepted at Winchendon, with enough of a scholarship to make it possible for me to enroll. Throughout my high school experience at Winchendon, I was able to develop my confidence so that I could interact, both socially and economically, while still holding on to my Dominican roots.”

Luis Franco
“As a single child I was raised by my parents who immigrated to the US from Guatemala. I had no idea of the incredible opportunities that were available to me. My high school journey began at Saint John’s Prep (SJP), an all-male Catholic college preparatory school in Danvers, Massachusetts. Like all of my classmates, I took part in the interviewing and essay writing workshops Mr. Cedeño facilitated. I am very thankful for the skills and tools that the workshops provided me. Putting them into practice afforded me a four-year merit scholarship and the opportunity to enroll at Saint John’s Prep.”

Genesis Paulino
“Because I felt that independent schools were out of my parent’s reach, I never considered applying to them. Instead, I opted to apply to a local catholic high school, like so many who graduated from my middle school. After getting exposed to the opportunities that independent schools offered, I was intrigued… but knew that my mom would never consider allowing me to board. Mr. Cedeño saw my interest and clearly understood what would be a good fit for me, and so encouraged me to visit a school. He also made sure that I focused on my grades and supported me in my discussions with my family which proved to be very helpful. He asked my mom to accompany us with no commitments. Before I realized it, I applied and was accepted into the school of my choice, the Berkshire School, an independent boarding school in Sheffield, Massachusetts. My mom, after many discussions with Mr. Cedeño, eventually supported my choice.”
